Arlington Real Estate, the family-owned property development specialist, has submitted plans to Durham County Council for a new office scheme at its DurhamGate, which would have the potential to create more than 60 new jobs.
The plans for a new, two storey modern office building are part of the continuing development of DurhamGate, which has become a thriving living, working and leisure destination located five miles south of Durham City.
The proposed 576 square metre office scheme, which will include up to four potential office suites, EV car parking and soft landscaping, is designed to be part of the DurhamGate North business park, allocated as employment land as part of the County Durham plan.
DurhamGate North already includes Learning Curve Group’s 2040 square metre headquarters building and the recently opened Durham Constabulary Investigative Hub, helping regenerate long-disused land and generating employment for several hundred people.
It complements the wider 85-acre DurhamGate, which has been transformed by Arlington Real Estate to include around 650 homes as well as several businesses including, Livin Housing, Breedon Group and Stanley Black & Decker.
Dean Cook, Managing Director of Arlington Real Estate, said: “I feel there is a market need for small, high quality, sustainable office schemes, which we can support with this proposed development.
“The lack of new office developments and the increase in hybrid working over having staff remote is fuelling the need for this type of development. DurhamGate North is already a thriving business location, and the addition of this new office would further strengthen the opportunity to attract new and existing businesses either looking to expand in the region or establish a presence in County Durham, with the opportunity to rent or own their very own premises.
“This development can offer business suites from 120 square metres up to 576 square metres, which we feel is where the commercial business park requirement is at currently.”
